Kriwan ‒ a German manufacturer of electronic HVAC&R components, including relays, monitors, regulators, sensors and switches ‒ has joined the NaturalRefrigerants.com marketplace as a gold partner.

With the EU F-gas Regulation driving the uptake of natural refrigerant solutions, Kriwan recently added two new liquid-level monitors compatible with ammonia (R717), CO2 (R744) and hydrocarbon systems.

“As a gold partner of NaturalRefrigerants.com, we are now part of a network of leading companies committed to natural refrigerants and sustainable technologies,” Kriwan said. “This collaboration strengthens our position in the industry and allows us to contribute to developing innovative solutions.”

New components

The new Adapt and Adapt Extended liquid-level monitors address the electronic challenges created by the higher discharge pressures and temperatures of natural refrigerant systems and heat pumps, according to Kriwan CEO Christian Ellwein.

Sensors in CO2 systems operating in warm, humid climates often accumulate ice, interfering with the LED optics, particularly on the high-pressure side of the receiver. “Kriwan has developed a potted version of the level sensor with the interior section filled with an encapsulation material to prevent ice forming,” Ellwein said.

To handle higher discharge temperatures, the company’s Adapt Extended monitor operates from 0 up to 160°C (32 to 320°F), making it compatible with ammonia and CO2 systems. Ellwein said that the company also offers a level sensor dedicated to flammable refrigerants with explosive atmospheres certification and integrated self-monitoring.

The liquid-level sensors come in a modular design, allowing the screw-in portion to remain in the system while replacing the electronic part. “This reduces downtime and simplifies maintenance without draining or shutting down the system,” says Kriwan.

Besides refrigeration components, Kriwan, founded in 1968, also produces temperature sensors to protect electric motor windings and solutions for industrial weather-measurement technologies.

“This collaboration strengthens our position in the industry and allows us to contribute to developing innovative solutions.”
