Latin America is an emerging market for natural refrigerants. ATMOsphere’s Natural Refrigerants: State of the Industry 2024 report estimated that there were 580 grocery stores and supermarkets in Latin America – defined as Mexico, Central and South America – using transcritical CO2 refrigeration systems. The report also estimated that there were 8.5 million self-contained hydrocarbon (mostly R290) cases installed in food stores in Latin America.

Of those 580 transcritical CO2 stores, 80 were in Colombia, with Weston installing the country’s first commercial transcritical CO2 refrigeration system in 2017. In October 2025, Colombian hypermarket chain Alkosto opened its first transcritical CO2 store in Bogotá.

The gold sponsor for the event is Hussmann, and the silver sponsors are Güntner and Ice Square. The bronze sponsors are Advansor, Bitzer, Dorin, FB Industrial, GTS, Intarcon, Modine, Sistemas de Refrigeración Totales (SRT), Teklab and Temprite. Those interested in sponsoring the event can find more information here or by contacting ATMOsphere’s Partnership Manager Silvia Scaldaferri at silvia.scaldaferri@shecco.com.
